The pentagram is a geometric figure, the simplest star shaped polygon.
In modern north america, it is mostly associated with neopagan and
satanist belief. Because of that, it is seen as evil .
Some of you may know that it was used as a protective symbol by catholic
exorcist in the past, but did you know that two centuries ago it was
used as a charm by almost all the roman church. It represented the five
wound of Jesus when he was crucified (hands and feets nailed to the
cross, then he got his chest pierced by a spear). Although other
representation existed its use remained the same: to protect them from
demons, witchs and evil spirits. A possible reason why it was seen as a
protection against demons and spirit goes back far in time, to the era
of King Solomon.
King Solomon was depicted in most legend as a man who knew almost
everything about any subject. This included magic and summoning. To
protect himself from the spirit he was summoning, he created(or
commisioned, this part isn't clear) an item of power he could wear on
him at any time. It was the Seal of Solomon!!!(dun dun duuuuun!!!)
It's a signet ring made of iron and brass, set with four gem stone and
the name of god carved on it. The main symbol on the seal was either a
five or six pointed star(vary from legend to legend).
No need to draw you a picture I hope. Other meaning, issued from other
religion and belief also exist, one day I tell you about those.
